Walking along the banks of the Danube in the heart of Budapest, hard to miss is a rare one of the most iconic shots is a brightly lit building at the banks of a blue river, Hungary’s Parliament building🏛🏛🏛 known around the world as one of the most stunning examples of combine Gothic Revival and Renaissance Revival architecture. Situated in the Pest side of the city, Hungary’s Parliament building has been witness to some of the country’s most pivotal moments, it’s has stood through the world wars and a shifting urban landscape. We explore its rich history with more than a hundred years of history behind it and currently are the largest building in Hungary.
Construction started in 1885 based for an open tender was held for the design of the Parliament building. There is a little sad 😢😢😢story behind this building .It is the creation of architect Imre Steindl who gets the winner but sadly went blind before its completion, leaving him unable to appreciate his finished masterpiece. Inaugurated in 1904, the Parliament of Budapest is a statement to the incredible building expertise of the architects and stonemasons involved in the construction. It is almost impossible😲😲😲 to comprehend how it was possible to build such an intricate and imposing building with the tools and technology available at the time. Standing at 268m (879ft) long, 123m (75.4ft) wide and 96m (314.9ft) tall, the Hungarian Parliament is the country’s largest building and the third largest parliament building in the world. Architecturally, the building is in the Gothic Revival styles; it has a symmetrical façade and a central dome. The dome is Renaissance Revival architecture.

This marvel of symbology in mind engineering, Steindl cleverly incorporated key numerical facts within its structure to illustrate the importance of its construction👏👏👏. The dome of the main Parliament building is 96 meters high, which symbolizes refers to the nation’s millennium, 1896, and the conquest of the later Kingdom of Hungary in 896. There are also 96 steps on the main staircase, which take visitors up to a magnificent hallway. Within the Grand Stairway there are eight, four-ton granite columns, of which only 12 can be found in the world today. Finally, 365 towers are incorporated throughout the building, one for each day of the year. Inside its grand walls there are 691 rooms, 10 courtyards and 12.5 miles worth of stairs.

With awe-inspiring architecture, it offers insight into Hungary’s political past and currently houses the offices of the Prime Minister and his staff, as well as one of Hungary’s biggest treasures: Since the 12th century, more of the kings have been crowned with this priceless art piece, which is protected by two rotating guards at all times. The façade displays statues of Hungarian rulers, Transylvanian leaders and famous military figures. Inside and outside, there are altogether 242 sculptures on the walls.
