The prior post we have mention the Tatra mountain are connected between Slovakia and Poland. While travel in Slovakia we only visit few range Tatra mountain so during our Poland Trip we decided experience other different beauty scenery picturesque of Tatra mountain🏔🏔🏔. The Tatras are a mountain range of a corrugated nature, and therefore characterized by a relatively young-looking lay of the land, quite similar to the landscape of the Alps, although significantly smaller. Alps-like Tatra Mountains, is rise to the greatest elevation in the entire northern half of Europe, with the 2655-meters (8711 ft) Gerlachovsky Stit in Slovakia and the 2499-meters (8198ft) Rysy peak in Poland. Both Slovak and Polish sides are protected as national parkland and are popular destinations for winter and summer sports. The Tatras are home to wildlife including the Tatra chamois, marmot, lynx and bears🐻🐻🐻.

Nestled between Gubalowka ridge and the foothills of the Tatry Mountains to the south, Zakopane is a picturesque ancient town in a narrow valley best enjoyed on foot. This town is as picturesque as they come while offering fascinating views of nature and a wealth of activities that keep visitors coming back. Biggest mountain resort🏡🏡🏡, it hosts beautifully renovated 18th-century homes🏛🏛🏛 for preservation of the town’s architectural heritage with surrounded by imposing mountains. Don’t think that this retro-style town is only the buildings of the old century. Yet, the town does also have a modern side, Zakopane well-developed in tourism infrastructure and earned the nickname “the winter capital of Poland”. How to go:

If you think🤔🤔🤔  such as nature attraction is very far from Krakow town. No no no, you are wrong!!!  However, venturing two hours further south brings you to “the winter capital of Poland” – Zakopane. That means sit just located a little over 100 kilometres, it’s extremely easy to reach Zakopane by bus 🚌🚌🚌from Krakow Town. Normally the bus leave regularly from the main bus station (Dworzec Autobusowy@MDA) just beside of Galeria Krakowska Shopping mall which near the old town. Outset our mountain town journey on the early morning, for go to the bus station (Dworzec AutobuMosowy), we suggest direct walk🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️ into the shopping mall and its easy go toward to the gate of bus station. Don’t worry and not necessary to buy bus tickets in advance because they are many buses running, the schedule of the bus every 30 minutes a trip with the ticket price is just around 20 PLN (4.68€) per adult. Of course, you also can only visit for the Krupówki Street, the main pedestrian zone of Zakopane always bustling with life for full of shops and restaurants, horse carriages and street performers. The town also is the scene of a traditional Goral culture for its vigorous folk traditions, its rich in its unique styles of food🥐🥖🧀, architecture, handicrafts, music, and costume. We come across the local market with have numerous wooden sculptures, traditional slippers, fur coats and fur hats can be found dotting the streets. Buy a few of local staple, Oscypek ( smoked sheep’s milk cheese) with the recipe followed dates back to the 14th century which can view selling the stuff all over the town of Zakopane. Oops😞😞😞 ,the taste is not suitable for us because of very very salt, It feels like grabbing salt to eat. Zakopane, the town have real character along with well-developed in tourism infrastructure and spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Tatra foothills that make it a jaw-dropper. When asked about Krakow castles, most people would immediately think of Wawel, one of the largest😮😮😮 Castle and the iconic symbol in Poland. The glorious ensemble that is Wawel Castle, perched on top of the hill of the same name immediately south of the Old Town, is by far one of the most important collection of buildings in Poland. The current castle dates back to around the 14th century onwards, built at the behest of King Casimir III and is the crown jewel of Kraków’s architectural treasures. There is at least one stage in everyone’s life, everyone will fantasize about the “he”🧑🧑🧑 in our heart, someone dress glittery garment, cloaked with a cloak, a sword in the waist and struggle with fire-breathing dragons in a bartizan tower. Now when walk in this castle we still can dream a little thanks to storybook abodes that really do exist to our fairytale fantasies. With according to a famous Polish legend, a legendary cave in the western slope of Wawel Hill, this cave is where the Wawel Dragon (Dragon’s Den) lived🐲🐲🐲. The oldest version of a legend about the dragon of Wawel, related to the mythic beginning of Cracow, the grotto is 270 meters long, going all the way to the banks of Vistula river.

Alongside with other well-known ski centres of the Tatras, several centres in lower mountains have been built and their offer uncrowded slopes. If you would like to learn skiing, don’t have more time to go to these big resorts, you can same as us to learn skiing also in smaller (and cheaper) local ski resorts. We decide end of Our Slovakia trip for skiing in the Jahodna Ski resort which nearly of the Kosice Town😄😄😄.

This time we use public bus🚌 🚌🚌as our transport to the Jahodna Ski resort. Slowly walk to the Mier Bus Station and take up the bus of Number 14 (Jahodná) and our destination is Jahodná, Chata. Well, buy the bus ticket at the bus station on the ticket machine with 0.70€ per ticket.  Note: Number 14 bus have arrived at two location so not only you must attention number and you also must make sure view the word of final bus stop : Jahodná, Chata. It’s take around 30 minute bus ride through some natural scenery and arrived our destination.

Walk a few minute, we arrived Jahodna Ski resort, this is not as big as same with main Ski resorts but the mountains in good and wide shape, it give us as a beginner the best 👍👍👍possible chance to learn the skiing. It have different package of rental Ski equipment with hours and equipment you want to rent. We choose the package of 2 hours with carving complete – Ski, Ski Shoes, Sticks and price is 10 € per package. Well, Skiing such a fun, exciting sport while skiing in a beautiful mountain added bonus to us interest for learn this new experience😍😍😍. After change on snowshoes and skiing equipment, let`s go to the ski resort. Oh, 😲😲😲we didn’t expect snowshoes and ski equipment to be so heavy. We just seemed to be slowly advancing as little baby learned to walk.

As a beginner, we only learn for ski on the foot of mountain.It’s great fun, we as a new skiers, it makes a difficult so we slow our overall progress ski for avoid as serious injury. While fall down again and again but we don’t give up💪💪💪on skiing until we can skiing a little distance for finish our Skiing trip. We hope to learn more on next time until enjoy the skiing as exhilarating experiences for the rest of our life. Prefer of different fun on Stary Smokovec , adventure in the caves, swim🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️🏊‍♀️ or walking at the waterfall and hiking to the mountain for fresh air. From Stary Smokovec to Hrebienok while trails are excellent for hiking and biking🚵‍♀️🚵‍♂️🚵‍♂️, where Hrebienok being the starting point of several high mountain routes as well as easier walks. Smell nature breath, observe butterflies flying and listen be serenaded by a chorus of insect during mountainous trips.

Of course, different seasonal has different fun experience. In winter, it becomes a pristine alpine cross-country skiing or snowshoe track, exciting enough to satisfy any snow-lover. Skiing🏂🏂🏂 where day and night sledding in Hrebienok is among the best winter experiences in the Tatras. The Stary Smokovec ski center is divided into two sites: Jakubkova meadow and Hrebienok, both 600 m apart that dedicated beginners ski slopes. It caters perfectly to any level, with the first time skiing snow visitor to the experienced, for intermediates of the long and wide trails are a perfect piste are just for everyone.

If same as us not plan for skiing, we are choose easy walk to the Hrebienok from Stary Smokovec. Hrebienok, a height of 1,285 meter, not only is terraced appearance in the High Tatras, plus you can crisp snow-capped mountains🏔🏔 and view the skyline of Poprad at the same time. While during winter time, a several of specialist winter favourite attractions spot on snow play area wait for us on the top of Hrebienok. The most comfortable way of getting to Hrebienok from Starý Smokovec is take the ground cabin🚋🚋🚋 cable-way with a return ticket for adults is 11€ at the weekend (9 € on weekdays). By the way, we choose for invigorating as a walk through the snow, to the top of Hrebienok, remember prepared the snow shoes as the track gets covered in a thick blanket of snow. In the winter mountain hike, because of this: you can feel the adventure even more than in the other seasons. Although the snow is thick, especially hard for walking and hike on a deep of snow land, but our heart are glad for walk on the glistening and windy of snowy. We always busy for keep our eyes👀👀👀 during hiking, we are be rewarded for view with visions of towering pine forests🌲🌲 🌲and crisp snow-capped mountains.

In this long and well-defined of hiking trail offers refreshing views, we are gaze at an impressive colour palette created by tall mountain oak and sycamore forest looming overhead, as well as natural beauties of white snow. If you’re craving beauty of the man-made variety, view for the masterpiece of ice, on the top of Hrebienok that conduct in winter season only. Every year there is organized competition called Tatry Ice Master that emerges the best sculptor of ice figures. In front of our eye is the majestic piece of art, an bigger of the Ice sculpture with using unbelievable number of ice blocks and the magical material of glass as artistic decorations. Plus the colourful of lights use for mention the exquisite craftsmanship and establish the beauty of art. Masterpiece of ice plus the snow land and natural of mountain bring us a feeling a art of atmosphere.

Except view the art for the masterpiece of ice, winter entertainment that welcome you to joint for play in winter spot: inner tube downhill on ice and downhill on a sled. While inner tube downhill on ice is most suitable for children. But the most favorite entertainment is on which the went – downhill on a sled, which most all of the visitor would play regardless adult or children. By the way, you can borrow the sled either on foot of mountain or at the top of Hrebienok. That is fun and happy😃😃😍 for use a full day to play downhill on a sled.

At the top of Hrebienok, you can find a restaurant, a holiday home and a panoramic terrace. We enjoy for fabulous view, the spectacular mountains and valley with natural beauties of white snow. Use our eyes👀👀👀appreciate for the birds🦅🦅🦅 that freedom fly surround on the top of forest. Peaceful feeling for use our heart listen👂👂 👂and view, the beauty of untouched nature covered with a blanket of snow combined with the depth of silence in a beautiful setting to get in touch with oneself.

As we mentioned last time, you can find the restaurant at the at the foot of the mountain. So for end of our Stary Smokovec trip with enjoy a dinner in small-scale restaurant behind of the railway station. One of attract us is different authentic Slovakia cuisine of set menu: one main course and soup with price 4.5€ per set. Take a rest and relaxing for sit on chair, Ah! No idea take order for dishes and direct ask the boss recommend and prepared for it. Wow that’s nice, two different flavorful of vegetable soups🥣🥣 🥣help us stay warm and cozy after go down from winter mountain. Great good smell let our stomach feel hungry again. Simultaneously, taste good for prefect of delicious pork🐷🐷🐷 plus rice and french fries, I like the recipe for the sauce of meat🐮🐮🐮 added the soft of bread🍠🍠🍠. Although we are first time taste authentic Slovakia cuisine, but we satisfying and like to savour these wonderful dishes. Let us happiness and enjoy a delicious of dinner.

It also is one of the popular holidays for those deciding where to skiing🏂🏂🏂, scenery, snow, and culture vary hugely by region and resort.
As a mountain🏔🏔 🏔range along the border of northern Slovakia, it is the unique protected area of flora and fauna among high-mountain plants such as dwarf pine, pine woods🌲🌲🌲 and a flora. Rare animal species such as the eagle🦅🦅🦅, bear, or marmot live here as well. The chamois🦌🦌🦌is the symbol of Tatras. It covers the high-mountain area of the Tatras and there are more than 80 tarns, 32 are located on the Slovak side of the mountains (the rest of them are in Poland). From majestic mountains to sweeping landscapes, wide-open skies to exceptionally clean air, High Tatras is home from some incredible hiking destinations.

They are four main parts of High Tatras in Slovakia. Poprad City – the gateway to High Tatras, a lot of accommodation facilities and a popular thermal aquapark.

Tatranska Lomnica – If you want to see High Tatras from a bird’s eye view you can take the cable railway from Tatranská Lomnica to Lomnicky štít and travel under the highest peaks and take delight in magnificent nature.

Strbske Pleso – A little village with glacial mountain lake, a perfect starting point for hikes to Krivan, belongs to the Western Tatras and is the most popular for hikes to the top of Tatras.

Stary Smokovec – a middle age town with the oldest and distinguishing feature of buildings for restaurants, hotels, shop and etc and administrative headquarters of the national park with waterfalls, caves, towering pine forests, rare animals and crisp snow-capped mountains.

Before go to High Tatras, Slovakia, we face the more difficult🤔🤔🤔 and less information online especially in English plus Chinese less information. While we know four main parts of transportation and orientation is easy arrive by trains and trams and inexpensive way to go around. But time of transportation is very important for us whose only plan for limit time🕐🕐🕐to tour this area, we are face of take the trains and trams would less convenient for waiting compared to self drive. Another must emphasize is season, while some area would close and some area would liven up during winter time. After consider all of these we choose tour as Stary Smokovec.

How To Go:

Go out early of morning, take train🚊🚊🚊as our main transport, and let’s go to our purpose “Stary Smokovec”. For transportation, first we must take the train to Poprad – Tatry after that change to ride the tram🚎🚎🚎( Slovakia call as Tez) to the our destination “Stary Smokovec”. Same as last time tour to Spišské Tomášovce, we are go to the Kosice Railway Station (If you want to known the address of Railway station and more information of the trains you can view our page of Spišské Tomášovce. ( https://lifecornerstory.blog/2019/03/26/our-europe-trip-slovakia-part-1-spissketomasovce-kosice/ ).  In Railway station, while waiting the train we enjoy a great wonderful breakfast with croissant with ham and cheese🥐🥐🥐 and a cup of hot coffee. The easiest access to the High Tatra, is you can the train either stop at Poprad or Tatranská Štrba which are two main railway station and after that take the trams leaving for the mountains. While buy the train ticket from Kosice to Poprad – Tatry with the price of 4.90 € per adult. The train from Kosice arrived Poprad – Tatry within 1 hour 30 minutes.

In the Poprad Railway station you no need walk out of the station and take the elevator to the downstairs while the station ticket counter would be beside of you. Buy the tram ticket price for go to “Stary Smokovec” with 3.50 € per adult and go up to the hall again follow the signboard of the tram( Slovakia call as Tez) to the platform of the tram ( Slovakia call as Tez) arrived. The checking ticket of the tram is machinery that mean would not have Train Ticket Examiner in the tram, use your ticket scan on the machine. It take about 30 minuted and we arrived “Stary Smokovec” station. For those whose want forward to Tatranska Lomnica and Strbske Pleso remember you must change another tram in the “Stary Smokovec” station also a station to change to .

Before go forward to our final destination, we walked slowly at the foot of the mountain and delight for view of the town that has a charming historical center full of colorful buildings that date mostly to the 18th and 19th centuries. “Stary Smokovec” a middle age town is a countryside retreat infused with the flavor of the old century building. The town is a recreational wonderland centered, the wooden folk architecture and Middle Ages building🏰🏰🏰, let us imagine as fairy tales. While, these old buildings are remodeled in shops, restaurants, souvenir shops, hotels🏩🏩🏩, etc. You can take a leisurely stroll and admire the architecture of the Middle Ages. It has the oldest building in Smokovec, view of both taste for classical forms and exotic styles.

While to be a recreational wonderland centered, the town as a lively area with a quiet atmosphere. Here easy to find a wide variety of hotels and restaurants, as well as street food stalls. Not only that, but it also have bicycle rental or souvenir shop. After walk around town, you can hike or bike to a mountain. Slovak cuisine was greatly influenced by the food of two neighbouring countries – Hungary and Austria and to add to the spice of life, the dishes vary from one region to the next. The origins of traditional Slovak cuisine can be traced to times when the majority of the population lived self-sufficiently in villages, therefore Slovak cuisine varies slightly from region to region across Slovakia, sure Kosice one of the cuisines also is unique.

What exactly is typical Slovakian food, you may be wondering, especially same as us whose come to Kosice (Slovakia) for first time? If you want to truly experience the culture in Kosice, one of the best ways to do this is by tasting the traditional food. We like for our hearty appetites: Do away with pesky limitations and like to taste different courses of dishes. To help us satisfied all of these need, we decided choose for all-you-can-eat restaurant in Kosice Town.

Wander through the Kosice town streets and fittingly located in Aupark Shopping Center, one of the bigger shopping center in Kosice. We will find FUSION Restaurant serving authentic Kosice food with all- you- can- eat buffet feast. Look simple from outside but inside restaurant a nice feeling of cosy atmosphere, FUSION Restaurant is serves old-fashioned local cuisine. The restaurant features a daily lunch and dinner buffet; only 4.90 € per adult, a weekend full meal-catering service; only 7.20 € per adult, not including drink but unlimited time.

We dining for weekend full meal-catering service because weekend serve many different traditional ethnic foods to enjoy. We are enjoy all-you-can-eat buffet features homemade soul food, including many using the Slovakian staple – pork and chicken🍗🍖! Typical pork products include a blood sausage “krvavničky”, spicy smoked sausage “klobása” and smoked bacon. Good taste😋😋😋 for spicy smoked sausage🥖🥖🥖 “klobása”, taste as salty and spicy very suitable for our appetites.

Of course restaurant serve some of the choices Traditional Kosice cuisine includes the unique dishes such as pasta with potato “Granadír”, Wiener schnitzel “Schnitzel”, fried cheese with French fries and tartar sauce “Vyprážaný syr”, blood sausage from slaughtered pig “Jaternica” and etc. Delicious Kosice meals are everything tasting really good, we especially liked sour and salty of Pork with dumplings and cabbage “Vepřo knedlo zelo”, sweet and hot of steamed dumplings filled with apple “ Parene buchty”👍👍👍. Although rice does not grow in Slovakia, it is widely-used in Slovakian and also including in the Fusion buffet.

Don’t worry if these don’t suitable for you, they also have serve a few vegetarian options . You can find different type of ‘Treska v majoneze” salad, various vegetables🥗🥗🥗 with different taste of salad sauce and mayonnaise . Choose and try some pickled pepper, Ouh…. very spicy. I admit I like and great for eat spicy but the pickled pepper of the restaurant is very hot and spicy😵😵 😵that I cannot accept. Ha ha ha ha, I admit I lose for this dish. It also has prepared two type Slovakian soup dishes, full already and don’t want waste the food so we choose for Kapustnica soup🥣🥣🥣. As well as yummy for sour taste with the soup is add on sweet cabbage and smoked sausage. We enjoy for sit on a relaxed atmosphere for finish our dining.

After finish our dining, as just now we mention FUSION Buffet Restaurant located in Aupark shopping center so we of course don’t forget spending some time for shopping routine. Well, Shopping🛍🛍🛍, one of main interest during our this time Euro travel trip. Look walk into H&M fashion store, choose and buy winter coat and sweatshirt . Well, we are very satisfied and happy for the price💲💲💲.

A land of magnificent cities and mountainous nature, Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe, are perfect for many people come to enjoy of their getaway. While Bratislava the capital of Slovakia is the country’s modernist buildings and bustle city. But Kosice; the second city in Slovakia, situated on the river Hornád near, is much leisurely and more contemplative. The Kosice town not only has extensive railway connections, it also is a well-preserved historical town.

We walk on Kosice town the longest pedestrian promenade in the country as well as the area of historical urban architecture with features everything buildings mix of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Art Nouveau styles. Although the historic architecture building even this modest-sized and precision-engraving is weaker compare to other euro country, but rich in culture and relaxing atmosphere become one of the most interesting for comes to city breaks.

Yet, Kosice is the biggest concentration of the historical monuments in the country, its tumultuous history has resulted in an architecturally rich settlement. We walk into built in the late 18th century history of building and our interest-see is the Classicist building with the late baroque elements which performance elegant of the historical building. Here we are happily spend a half-day wandering through lies in the beautiful architecture.
